Theatre Puget Sound Stage Full Schedule and Descriptions

Saturday September 2, 2006

Myth Understandings

theater simple

a US Premiere

2:30 pm – 3:20 pm @ Theatre Puget Sound Stage

A funny frolic through the texts and orgins of familiar folk tales, fairy tales and myths, Myth Understandings begins as two excitable scientists are having trouble integrating the complexities of myths and stories into their new automatic, personal thinking machine, the ‘i-head’. Cataclysmic events throw the two into the middle of those very tales, a world of adventure, excitement and danger, causing them to re-consider the ethics of their invention. A funny, physical & sideways look at myths and fairytales and their battle to survive in our world of technology, this smart work proves these stories to be far more mysterious than we may believe. *Recommended for ages 5-12 with plenty of fun for adults.

(Just Like) Starting Over

Seattle Public Theatre presents with Roseta Productions

a World Premiere

4:00 pm – 4:45 pm @ Theatre Puget Sound Stage

This play is an excerpt. “(Just Like) Starting Over” is a new stage play about the last day in the life of John Lennon. It is a dramatic re-enactment based largely upon an unpublished interview with John and Yoko, granted hours before John was tragically killed. This dialogue-driven theatrical documentary will make the audience feel like a fly on a wall inside the Lennons’ quarters in the Dakota on that fateful day. Lennon exposes his personal and professional life in full, sometimes harshly and always honestly. They talk lyrically and movingly about emerging from five years of seclusion to release Double Fantasy, reversing roles, and a newly found familial bliss. It is revealed how the marriage of minds between John and Yoko yielded so many complex artistic and political statements. Rendering the timeless relevance of his art and words, John’s intriguing commentary on such transformations as the anti-war movement, terrorism, women’s rights, religious freedom, racial equality, and conservative politics echo clearly into our world today. *Not recommended for children under 12.

Myth Understandings

theater simple

a US Premiere

5:30 pm – 6:20 pm @ Theatre Puget Sound Stage

See Above

Seattle Neutrino Project

subatomic productions

7:15 pm – 8:15 pm @ Theatre Puget Sound Stage

Seattle Neutrino is a unique show that merges the fields of theatre, film, and reality television. The result is an original piece of film that has never been seen before and will never be seen again. They are a group of actors and technicians who create, edit, and project a film all in real time for a live audience! *Not recommended for children under 12.

Sunday September 3, 2006

Seattle Neutrino Project

subatomic productions

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm @ Theatre Puget Sound Stage

See Saturday September 2, 2006

a Macha Monkey Cowgirl Cabaret

Macha Monkey Productions

featuring Rick Miller and Manifest Destiny's Child

3:45 pm– 4:15 pm @ Theatre Puget Sound Stage

The Cowgirl Play sends us back in time to 1880 with three buxom, singing cowgirls narrating the adventures of Rosie and Gunn, a story that often tries to go buck wild on its own. Combining elements of theater, original music, dance and shadow puppetry, The Cowgirl Play is hilarious, fast-paced, and fun. Written by Kristina Sutherland and Desiree Prewitt, The Cowgirl Play is filled with original music composed and performed by Rick Miller.

The Show

Troy Miszklevitz

a one man show

5:00 pm – 6:00 pm @ Theatre Puget Sound Stage

Quirky and hilarious characters search for super-stardom in this one-man musical comedy. An insane traveling “nature-evangelist” tells a story about a New York City street hustler who, with the help of a local hobo, attempts to gain super-stardom by replacing the host of his favorite late night talk show. “The Show” is co-created by Miszklevitz and Rhonda J. Soikowski, and is directed by Soikowski with music composed by Zeke Keeble of locust. Troy Miszlevitz has been working professionally in film, television, theatre, and dance throughout the Pacific Northwest for the past six years. In Washington he has performed at the Seattle Repertory Theatre, On the Boards, Velocity, ReBar, Theater Schmeater, Union Garage, Richard Hugo House, The Rialto, SecondStory Repertory and Kirkland Performance Center among others. His original one-man stage-comedy “The Show” recently premiered in the Northwest New Works Festival at On the Boards in June. *This show is suitable for children 12 and younger.

DArK EArTH

NAKeD PUPPeTS

6:45 pm – 7:45 pm @ Theatre Puget Sound Stage

A poetic and mysterious performance event for adults in which the innovative company explores the Kabbalistic idea of “failed worlds” with experimental puppetry, digital projections, and original soundscapes. In four daring pieces, that range from the mystical to the comical, NAKeD PUPPeTS imagines the worlds that fail to become. They conjure a theatre of images that reveals visions of mystery, impossible love, and broken expectations. Taking advantage of the constant tension between the puppet medium and the fetishistic force of conventions, the company plays with the poetic possibilities of this tension to reveal visions of hope, tenderness and imagination. This production was made possible in part by a generous grant from the JIM HENSON FOUNDATION.

“My Boat to Bainbridge”, written and performed by Matt Smith and directed by Bret Fetzer, is a 70 minute monologue about a man’s resistance to leaving his hometown (Seattle) for a place with a better public school system for his kids. It’s also the story of a man’s eccentric relationship with his dog.

Spin the Bottle

Annex Theatre

6:30 pm – 8:00pm @ Theatre Puget Sound Stage

"a wonderfully varied mix of talent and performance styles"-- The Stranger Performers of every description present short works that range from the unusual to the simply indescribable. Cheap theatrics! Smutty stories! Dazzling dance! Heart-wrenching harmonies! Annex Theatre's late night variety show, Spin the Bottle, has been offering bite-sized chunks of the best performances in Seattle for over six years. Come check out this cornucopia of music, dance, theater, storytelling, culled from the best work to appear over the past year-- including The Half Brothers, Top Water Action, Jonah Von Spreecken and Chris Bange, and more.
