DESCRIPTION

Mirror Stage Company continues its 06-07 Feed Your Mind season, co-sponsored by 4Culture, with MLK’s NOBEL PEACE PRIZE ACCEPTANCE, adapted by Suzanne M. Cohen, performing Monday, January 22 at 7pm in Schafer Auditorium in Lemieux Library, on campus of Seattle University. A discussion with the audience follows the reading.

At the age of 35, Martin Luther King, Jr. was the youngest man to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. When notified of his selection in 1964, he announced that he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement. Originally commissioned by The Central District Forum for Arts & Ideas and Seattle Center as part of the 2007 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration.

Managing Artistic Director Suzanne M. Cohen has performed, directed and worked on productions at theaters across the country, as well as internationally. She played Bonnie in the British Premiere of David Rabe's Hurlyburly, and also appeared in the British Premiere of Sam Shepard's Hawk Moon. Among favorite productions she has directed are Wendy Kesselman's My Sister in This House, and the British Premiere of David Mamet's Revenge of the Space Pandas. Since moving to Seattle in 1992, Ms. Cohen has worked at many Seattle theaters, including the Empty Space, Intiman, Alice B., and The Group Theater. Ms. Cohen earned a BA from University of Southern California and a Master of Not-for-Profit Leadership from Seattle University. She served two years as the President of the League of Fringe Theatres, and is formerly the board president for Seattle Scenic Studios.

Admission is free ($5 donation suggested). Schafer Auditorium in Lemieux Library is easily accessible from the 11th Ave and E. James St. lot.
