DESCRIPTION

Key City Public Theatre’s 2008 Summer Performing Arts Series wraps up this month with a concert of solo operatic works by world-class tenor Richard Troxell.

In a program entitled "Puccini to Porter," Troxell sings arias, art songs and classic Broadway melodies, accompanied by Portland pianist Tom Webb.

The performance is Sat., Aug. 30, at 8 p.m. at Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave., Port Townsend.

Richard Troxell’s beautiful lyric tenor voice has been heard on operatic and concert stages around the country and around the world. His powerful stage presence and ability to connect with people have set him apart and made him a favorite with audiences of all ages.

On film, he can be seen in the role of Lieutenant Pinkerton in “Madame Butterfly,” a film that was widely acclaimed by music and film critics alike. The New York Times called his portrayal “the most dramatically satisfying vocal characterization” in the film.

The 2007-2008 operatic season was a busy one for Troxell. Most recently, he sang his now signature role of Lieutenant Pinkerton in “Madame Butterfly” in a sold-out début with Opéra de Montréal. Prior to that, he was Christian in “Cyrano de Bergerac” in a début with Opéra de Monte Carlo. In Paris, he sang the title role in “Zampa” in another début with the Opéra Comique.

Equally at home on the concert stage, Troxell has been tenor soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, l’Orchestre de Paris, the Berlin Radio Symphony, and l’Orchestre de Monte Carlo, among others, as well as in performances at Avery Fisher Hall (Lincoln Center) with the American Symphony Orchestra, and in Bach’s “Magnificat” at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

KCPT Artistic Director Denise Winter first met and worked with Troxell while he was singing the role of Alfredo in "La Traviata" with New York City Opera's National Company. Their tour, whose mission was to bring opera to communities that otherwise could not support local opera companies, traveled to 97 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Troxell now resides in Pennsylvania.

Tickets for the Aug. 30 KCPT benefit event are $22 and include entry in a drawing for two tickets to a Portland Opera performance. Troxell is again starring as Alfredo in “La Traviata” at Portland Opera this fall.

For tickets, call KCPT at 360-379-0195 or purchase online at www.KeyCityPublicTheatre.org.
