MISSION STATEMENT
An award-winning, internationally acclaimed ensemble, theater simple aims to strip the theatrical experience down to its elemental parts: the imagination of actor & audience, the playwright's words and the director's vision.
theater simple has built a solid reputation performing in the Pacific Northwest, across the US, Canada and Australia, by producing quality affordable theater in schools, rural communities, and international urban arts festivals.
WE BUILD FROM THE IMAGINATION UP.

theater simple's Unofficial Rules:
#1 Produce provocative, inspiring and professional theater on a shoestring.
#2 - Borrow, steal or recycle the shoestring...
#3 - The audience is smart, and
#4 - Allow the audience the dignity of their own response.
#5 'Simple' does not mean easy.

MORE ABOUT THEATRE
Performing and touring internationally since summer of 1991, theater simple has participated in international arts festivals from east (Spoleto Festival USA, Piccolo Theatre series, Charleston, South Carolina) to west (Perth International Arts Festival Fringe, Western Australia)far East (Singapore Arts Festival) and right in Seattle (SRO shows at Bumbershoot and the Seattle Fringe Festival) and many, many points in between.

The simpletons have accumulated numerous awards and accolades, including King County Special Projects grants for four plays (Trailer Tales, The Snow Queen, Moby Dick and Camino Real) plus support for a fourth for which we were the adaptors and performers. (Strindberg(in Paris)

In Australia, our other creative 'home', we made our debut Down Under at the 1996 Adelaide Fringe with a season of five shows - and left the country with the GRAND PRIZE for ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE in our luggage - overall honors out of 350 groups by the Advertiser and the Independent Arts Council of South Australia. Additionally, in 2000 THE MASTER & MARGARITA was named one of three BEST PLAYS at the Adelaide Fringe, and The FOREIGN LEGION, curated by the artistic directors of the company, swept all THREE Best Play awards. February 2006 marked the beginning of a 3-4 year collaboration with Australia's award-winning Urban Myth Theatre of Youth.
