MISSION STATEMENT
|
Terror is fundamental to the human condition, and is consistently being given new meaning in today’s world. Experience tells us that nothing makes the human being feel more alive than direct confrontation with what we fear, in all of its forms. It is a conflict that presents itself in the smallest of dramatic actions and the greatest of human endeavors. Without this confrontation, there can be no truth in life or in art.
This truth inspires us to bring people together in the experience of theatre. Theatre invites us to “come to the brink”, through a commitment to risk-taking, truth-telling, and experimentation, and it is the journey of every actor, director, designer, playwright, and audience member.
So saying, we propose that Edge Theatre Ensemble will strive to find the danger and the challenge in our work, and run towards it rather than away from it.
As an ensemble, through our study of the actor’s craft, we will unveil and embrace those truths which frighten us most, and strive to find new ways to use these in our work.
As political and social beings, we will explore universal truths of the human condition, as well as the contemporary issues of the day, and attempt to investigate and reveal them boldly in theatrical form.
As part of our community, we will endeavor to reflect a world of diversity within the ensemble, in order to stretch common perceptions with an art-form that essentially resists limitations.
And as individuals, supported within an ensemble of true empathy and trust, we will return again and again to the edge of our own personal artistic safety and joyfully take the next step.

MORE ABOUT THEATRE
|
Founded in 2001, Edge Theatre Ensemble is a unique Seattle-based collective of theatre artists presenting socially-conscious plays and new works, to give audiences an exhilarating and thought-provoking experience.
As artists, we aim to challenge ourselves artistically, while examining the issues of our times and aspects of the human condition, in order to pose questions and create dialogue within our community. For the latest on ETE, please see our website: www.edgetheatre.org. |
