MORE ABOUT THEATRE
|
|
One of the pre-eminent theatres in the country, Intiman serves our community as an activist theatre that celebrates artists and the power of performance, and that creates unexpected opportunities for conversation and debate beyond the walls of theatre and in our community. Recognized for relevant, ambitious and exciting productions of classics and new plays, innovative community engagement programs, and arts education programs that give voice to young people statewide, Intiman was awarded the 2006 Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre. Intiman’s major initiatives include the American Cycle series of classic stories and free public programs, and a five-year International Cycle fostering international collaborations that will be launched in 2010 with Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Ruined. Landmark world premieres include The Light in the Piazza by Craig Lucas and Adam Guettel; The Singing Forest and Prayer for My Enemy by Craig Lucas, directed by Bartlett Sher; Nickel and Dimed, Joan Holden’s adaptation of the nonfiction bestseller by Barbara Ehrenreich; and Robert Schenkkan’s The Kentucky Cycle, winner of the Pulitzer Prize. Intiman was founded in 1972, and is guided today by the vision of Incoming Artistic Director Kate Whoriskey, Artistic Director Bartlett Sher, and Managing Director Brian Colburn. www.intiman.org. |
