MORE ABOUT THEATRE
|
Founded in 2001 and based in Seattle, Macha Monkey productions is dedicated to the creation, production and promotion of stories featuring strong women in King County and beyond.
Fearless, Funny, Female Theatre
Macha Monkey's work features powerful themes, strong humor and rough and tough female characters. We emphasize content over imposing sets and posh accoutrements.
Our season runs September to June and consists of two developed plays, one developmental piece in collaboration with a playwright, and a themed quarterly cabaret series called MEOW.
We are currently accepting play submissions. You may send scripts to kristinas@machamonkey.org

Macha Monkey Productions next production, We Are Not These Hands by Sheila Callaghan, will be produced at Theatre Off Jackson February 2007. Look for updates soon!
Recently, Macha Monkey produced Fall Off Night by award-winning playwright Allison Gregory. Fall Off Night played at LiveGirls! Theatre from 9/22 - 10/7/06 and received rave reviews. The Stranger said "Even Fall Off Night's scene changes are fun to watch: everything happens on a wide-open stage, with very little set, and the only real sign that a scene is beginning or ending is the actors, running across the stage at breakneck speed, interacting in curious, offhanded ways—a newspaper changes hands three times in less than ten seconds, there is an arrhythmic, directionless conga line, and two people fight over a rolling bench in the background. There are only eight cast members, but these manic attacks make it feel like twenty distinct characters are lurking backstage...This is a play full of surprises—a homeless woman losing body parts, an obscene helicopter flyby, and a possum describing her own death. Everything goes so smoothly, the production practically hums." PAUL CONSTANT
