MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of Mirror Stage Company is to sensitize, educate and engage our diverse world community by reflecting and illuminating life onstage. MSC nurtures unique artistic voices and provides opportunities for emerging artists to work alongside more seasoned professionals.
MORE ABOUT THEATRE
Mirror Stage Company’s current artistic activities center upon its innovative Feed Your Mind series of staged readings. Feed Your Mind highlights new voices, and examines topical issues from different perspectives. The plays are presented simply: no costumes or sets—just the actors and the text. Following the reading, a discussion with the audience, actors, directors, and playwrights (when local), focuses on the text and explores the relevance of issues raised to our community, nation, world and selves in more depth.

Feed Your Mind uses the power of the spoken word to increase tolerance and understanding, bringing us to a place of common understanding. The format of the post-play discussions provides a unique forum for audience members and artists to explore the deeper meaning and contemporary relevance of issues and topics raised in the scripts, together.

For the 06-07 Feed Your Mind season, nearly 50 percent of the actors hired were people of color, including African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Latino/Hispanics, and Native Americans. Reflecting the multitude of ethnicities, heritages, backgrounds, and cultures of our community against the backdrop of universal issues with which we all struggle, Mirror Stage Company challenges assumptions, bias and prejudice, while encouraging more thoughtful reflection. It opens doors to new ways of seeing and thinking— entertaining while it enlightens—in provocative and challenging, yet always accessible ways.
