DESCRIPTION
ReAct is excited to present a new staging of the captivating hit musical, THE LAST FIVE YEARS on our mainstage. A popular success Off Broadway, this touching show proves there are two sides to every love story. When Jamie and Cathy fall in love it feels like kismet, but in this musical roller-coaster ride, we witness their five-year relationship from two viewpoints...he travels forward in time, she in reverse. Funny and uplifting, heartbreaking and poignant, this wonderful show captures the pain and bliss of love itself.
You won't want to miss this very special presentation about modern romance, featuring three amazing casts performing the show in rotation. Please join us!
Find out why this show had become a favorite among theatre folk everywhere!

Thursday 8 September 2005: The Last Five Years, ReAct at Freehold East Hall
This chamber musical, running about 90 minutes without intermission, covers a relationship from start to finish, with an apparent loop in the chronology that Louise picked up on and I did not. ReAct has triple cast the principal roles, with the "off duty" players acting as the chorus. We saw it on opening night with the "red" cast, Emjoy Gavino and Timothy Glynn. The volumes of the two voices are so different that each time they switched off as soloists, the contrast was startling. I found it hard to hear all of Gavino's lines, which did not help with the somewhat convoluted plot line. Glynn's voice is almost too large for the space. I recommend you try one of the other casts pairings (Jadd Davis/Mariah Anne Taylor or Jason Kappus/Jessica Skerritt). David Hsieh directed. Checkmark to Mark Rabe for non-stop piano accompaniment.
