Free Night of Theater offers
Patron Frequently Asked Questions
What is Live Theatre Week?
In 2005 the Seattle City Council unanimously passed Resolution 30765 which established one week each year to be known and celebrated as "Live Theatre Week" in Seattle. This proclamation was passed in hopes of showcasing a diverse range of programming, promoting and increasing live theatre attendance, generating excitement, and demonstrating the cultural and political relevance of live theatre.
Theatre Puget Sound capitalized on this proclamation and began producing an annual Live Theatre Week festival in the Puget Sound region of Washington State. Live Theatre Week is an open invitation to the public, welcoming them into our theatrical homes for free performances and special events geared towards building community and providing access to the arts. The festival also includes Free Night of Theater, a national audience development initiative originally launched by Theatre Communications Group.
Live Theatre Week takes place the third week in October. Free Night of Theater occurs on the third Thursday of October. This year,
Live Theatre Week will run from October 12-18, with Free Night on and around October 15th and the new Target Family Day on October 17th. For information on Live Theatre Week Special Events, please scroll to the bottom of this FAQ.
What is Free Night of Theater?
Free Night of Theater is a stunningly audacious and captivatingly simple program: to introduce new audiences to live theatre in the Puget Sound, by opening the theatre doors for free. We encourage anyone who does not go to the theatre to give it a try, while asking current theatre goers to experience a theatre they’ve never been to before.
How do I know what shows will be free?
Go to SeattlePerforms.com/ltw and click on the Free Night of Theater link to view specific Free Night show offers by date.
Can anyone participate in Free Night of Theater?
Anyone may reserve free tickets through SeattlePerforms.com beginning Oct. 5 or in person on Oct 4, 12:00 – 3:00pm at Seattle Center’s Fisher Pavilion. The goal of Free Night of Theater is to introduce new audiences to the theatres in the Puget Sound, so we encourage you to choose a theatre company you have never attended in the past.
When can I make ticket reservations for Free Night of Theater?
Starting Monday, October 5, you may reserve your free tickets online at SeattlePerforms.com/ltw. Get a jump on the competition and reserve your free tickets in person at the Live Theatre Week Kick-off Fair at Seattle Center’s Fisher Pavilion on October 4, 12 – 3pm.
Can I call the theatres directly to reserve my free tickets?
NO, free tickets cannot be booked through participating theatres. All reservations will go through Theatre Puget Sound.
Can I book more than one show for Free Night of Theater?
Only one show per patron, please. Reservations to multiple performances will be deleted.
What should I do if the free tickets for the show I want are gone?
Choose another Free Night of Theater performance and try something new! Remember that shows which have “sold-out” their free tickets may well have full-price tickets for sale. Contact individual theatres for availability.
What if I cannot attend the show I reserved?
Pass along your tickets to a friend! Simply forward your email confirmation to someone you know who would like to see the show. Or contact the participating theatre directly to cancel your Free Night of Theater reservation.
How do I pick up my tickets?
Free Night of Theater tickets will be held at “Will Call” at the participating theatre. Pick up your tickets starting one hour before show time on the day of the Free Night performance. Tickets not claimed 30 minutes before show time will be released to stand-by patrons.
Who has access to my information when I sign up for free tickets?
The goal of this program is to connect people to theatres they’ve never been to before. To help us stay in touch, patron contact information collected for Free Night of Theater will be shared only by the host theatre and Theatre Puget Sound. This information will not be sold.
What is a Live Theatre Week Special Event?
Live Theatre Week Special Events are not mainstage performances. They are community-driven, informal events hosted by specific theatre companies. They can be anything from open rehearsals to tours to receptions to workshops to parties to play readings, you name it!
Live Theatre Week Special Events are free, open to the public and, unlike Free Night of Theater events, do not require reservations. Go to SeattlePerforms.com/ltw and click on the “Live Theatre Week Special Events” link to view specific events by date.
Who do I contact with questions about Live Theatre Week?
Please contact the office of Theatre Puget Sound at 206.770.0370 or tps@tpsonline.org.
